15 Devilishly Clever Movie Secrets You Probably Missed
1. Back To The Future Has Too Many Easter Eggs To Count
As this article has demonstrated, a wide variety of films harbour little secrets, Easter eggs and hidden gems. But of all the films on this list, Back to the Future definitely takes the cake. Some of the Easter eggs are fairly obvious or well known, such as the clock tower changing after it was struck by lighting; Marty influencing the busboy at the local diner to run for mayor; or the cameo by Huey Lewis and the News as the judges of the band competition early in the film, who also performed the opening theme song.
But some of the little Easter eggs hidden in the film require a bit more of a keen eye to spot. One of the best involves the mall from the first half of the film. Doc asks Marty to meet him at the Twin Pines mall to test out the DeLorean time machine. After Marty travels to the past, he finds himself on the farm that the mall was eventually built on - and almost immediately runs over one of two very deliberately placed pine trees.
Later in the film, when Marty returns back to the future and rushes to the mall to save Doc from the Libyans... it is now called the Lone Pine Mall.
But wait, there's more. The farmer whose pine tree Marty ran over and whose barn he ends up crashing into is named Peabody, as evident by his mailbox which is shown later in the scene (Doc Brown also mentions him in dialogue, back at the mall). At one point Peabody calls out to his son, Sherman - Mr. Peabody and Sherman, of course, being a famous time-travelling duo from the 1960's Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon show.
