9. Cruella De Vil - One Hundred And One Dalmatians (1961)
http://youtu.be/KcdQk7JBPzQ This is such an interesting and underrated song. Not only is it a great introduction to a classic villain, but it also involves an onscreen character actually formulating the lyrics to the song as the scene progresses. That reason alone makes it unique among Disney songs. The underlying music from different instruments that flows throughout the scene serves to heighten the ominous nature of Cruella De Vil. Cruella De Vil was written by Mel Leven and is one of the most distinctive examples of a films ability to showcase a songs genesis. It is a grand nostalgic theme song to a cruel devil of a villain. 8. Under The Sea - The Little Mermaid (1989)
http://youtu.be/jgA2xo0HYrE Alan Menken composed and Howard Ashman wrote the lyrics to this exhilarating Calypso-style song about life in the ocean. Under the Sea is a rollicking musical number that won an Oscar for The Little Mermaid in 1989. Headed by Sebastian the crab, who is voiced by Samuel E. Wright, the song is a plea to convince Ariel to stay with her friends and family in the water. As we all know, however, Ariel longs to experience life on land. I also considered Part of Your World and Kiss the Girl, but in the end, Under the Sea, with its varied instrumentation, catchy percussion, and amusing lyrics, demonstrates the sheer joy of the film and brings back memories of just how fun a Disney song can be.
