11. The Bells Of Notre Dame - The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (1996)
http://youtu.be/_yQohEH6ewo The Hunchback of Notre Dame may not in the top tier of Disney films, but that doesnt detract from its terrific score and songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The Bells of Notre Dame establishes the dark tone of the story and music, introduces characters, and serves as one of the most grandiose title sequences of any Disney film. Tony Jays Judge Claude Frollo is menacing, David Ogden Stierss Archdeacon is appropriately pious, Paul Kandels Clopin is energetic, and the chorus is chill-inducing. The chimes anchor the entire song. I thought about including the mesmerizing Frollo song Hellfire, but this list is about stirring up nostalgia, not terror: it amazes me (in a good way) that Hellfire ever made it into a Disney film at all. 10. The Bare Necessities - The Jungle Book (1967)
http://youtu.be/9ogQ0uge06o The Bare Necessities is one of Disneys most apt celebrations of the simple things in life. The song was written by Terry Gilkyson and performed by Phil Harris as Baloo and Bruce Reitherman as Mowgli, and is a laid-back musical explanation of the ways of the world from teacher to pupil. Oscar nominated The Bare Necessities has an infectious rhythm and some great tongue-twister lyrics. This song is a major source of nostalgia, as it implores us to slow down and focus on what is really important.
