15 Early Predictions For 2019 Oscars
7. Glenn Close Pulls A Gary Oldman, Wins A Career Oscar (The Wife)
You can bet the house on Glenn Close scooping the Best Actress Oscar next year for her portrayal of the wife of a Nobel Prize recipient, which has already earned rave reviews from its TIFF premiere last September, with many considering it the strongest performance of Close's career.
The Wife is an especially interesting Oscar contender, as Sony Pictures Classics smartly held back from releasing it this past Oscar season, instead appreciating their competition and waiting for the next cycle.
Close, who has six Oscar nominations to her name already, is long overdue the win, and with a ruthless campaign, there's a damn fine chance that the seventh time will be the charm.
She'll have to fend off stiff competition from Saoirse Ronan (Mary Queen of Scots) in particular, but the general feeling that she deserves an Oscar should allow her to pull a Gary Oldman and essentially win the award for a career of achievements, even if she's actually not totally deserving in this particular instance.
