15 Early Predictions For 2019 Oscars

2. Best Director: Damien Chazelle (First Man)

When Damien Chazelle won the Best Director Oscar last year at the mere age of 32, he became the youngest ever filmmaker to win the award, cementing himself as the hottest young director to watch.

Chazelle just might make another record next year by being the youngest filmmaker to have two Best Director Oscars, if his Neil Armstrong drama First Man remotely lives up to the hype.

Chazelle will have plenty of competition from the likes of Barry Jenkins (If Beale Street Could Talk), Steve McQueen (Widows) and probably Martin Scorsese (The Irishman), but it's easy to see how the dazzling ambition of his project could win out here, especially given the general public fascination with Armstrong's story.

Though it might seem like Chazelle winning another Oscar so soon is unlikely, remember that Alejandro G. Iñárritu won consecutive Oscars for Birdman and The Revenant in 2014 and 2015.
