15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed
4. The Loved Ones
Nobody likes a spoilt brat who kicks up a huge fuss if they don't get their own way - give that spoilt brat a psychopathic father and carte blanche to do whatever they like and the result is probably not dissimilar from the events in The Loved Ones. Australians filmmakers have had a good track record when it comes to horror, with serial killer movies like Wolf Creek complimented by more atmospheric chillers such as the exceptional The Babadook. The Loved Ones is of the same high calibre, but for some reason got considerably less exposure when it was first released, The 98% rating The Loved Ones currently has on Rotten Tomatoes might be a little too high but Robin McLeavy's performance as Lola - the psychopathic girl who likes to torture her "dates" - and the darkly comic script elevates the film well above the standard torture porn fare.
