15 Essential Horror Movies Since 2000 You Might've Missed

5. Tucker & Dale Vs Evil

Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine play the titular hillbillies in Tucker And Dale Vs Evil, with a backwoods adventure which is as much comedy as it is horror. Comparisons with Shaun Of The Dead are perhaps overly generous, but it certainly shares the same sense of fun as Edgar Wright's zombie comedy classic. A group of obnoxious high school students mistake Tucker and Dale for a pair of serial killers, an opinion strengthened over the course of the film by a series of unfortunately-timed accidental deaths. Spotting the horror movie references scattered throughout is a lot of fun, but a sharp script ensures that this is more than just an Easter egg hunt for horror fans. Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 is in the works - Tudyk and Labine made this clear at the 2014 HorrorHound Weekend - so if referential horror-comedies are your thing there's more horror-comedy of errors on the horizon.
