15 Films We’re Amazed That Hollywood Hasn’t Remade Already
11. The Breakfast Club
Sacrilege! Blasphemy! You can't remake The Breakfast Club! I remind you all that this isn't a list of films that I necessarily think that Hollywood should remake merely those that I'm surprised that they haven't already. So with that in mind, I add John Hughes' The Breakfast Club to this list. For those that haven't seen the original, take a break now and bring it up on Netflix and watch it. I'll wait here while you do that.... Ok, we good? Right, on with the show The Breakfast Club is a 1980s utter classic, up there with Back To The Future and Sixteen Candles. It is a coming of age film, all set in a Saturday morning detention session. The good thing is that this needn't be a total reboot we don't need the same characters with the same names, but Hollywood could essentially take the title and the situation and apply it to a new cast of characters. Sure some would still be the same sports jock for instance, but you could shoe horn in a hipster into the crowd. Of course as to how good such a premise would be is entirely down to both the script and the quality of the casting. The director, well I'd throw that one up in the air because do we even have a modern John Hughes? Perhaps this is one way to find them. Of course remaking The Breakfast Club successfully would probably lead to other films of this genre and era being remade most notable Sixteen Candles. Personally I think it is a terrible idea as Hollywood only ever seems to butcher 1980s films when they are remade, but as long as the machine makes money from them they don't seem to care about the output. Probability: Possible... once a studio has the guts to get through the backlash that remaking a John Hughes classic will inspire.
