15 Films Audiences Got Right (But Critics Got Wrong)
4. Paranormal Activity
Rotten Tomatoes: 83%
IMDb: 6.3
Rotten Tomatoes is great but some of their scores are ridiculous and this is one of them. These days, does anyone actually like Paranormal Activity?
Lacking in effective scares, originality or any real plot, this is a remarkably tedious found-footage horror film that's also filmed by the most annoying cameraman in the history of the sub-genre.
Given how annoying and dull the film actually is, the high RT score is truly baffling. Doors slamming and a woman standing still for several hours are not good scares at all and it remains inexplicable that critics were so frightened by it. Still, for them this ridiculously over-hyped movie actually lived up to the hype, so they are to be envied.
The IMDb rating of 6.3 is still too high, but it at least it shows that audiences rightly found this to be deeply underwhelming.
Interestingly, The Blair Witch Project also only has a rating of 6.3 and is largely trashed by audiences but loved by critics. Audiences also got that one right as Blair Witch Project was over-praised, but that movie is perfectly OK while Paranormal Activity is utter, utter crap.
