15 Films Critics Got Right (But Audiences Got Wrong)
13. Green Room
Rotten Tomatoes: 90% (Average rating: 7.7)
IMDb: 7.0
Green Room is an unbearably tense and brilliantly brutal horror film that's full of fantastic thrills and features great work from Patrick Stewart in an against-type role as the Neo-Nazi arch-villain. How does all that add up to a mere 7.0?
This one could be particularly damaging since 2016 was the worst year for films in recent memory and this was one of maybe five films which were genuinely great, but some may pass it by due to this low rating. This is a film which must be seen and you shouldn't let the stupidly low IMDb score fool you.
It really is a terrific movie and the lower audience scores don't make an awful lot of sense. Admittedly, this is a movie which puts thrills before character development, but that's often the case with small-scale thrillers such as this so if you put that one issue to one side you can definitely have a great time.
These unfairly low ratings do happen with many modern horror films. It could be due to the fact that many of these recent, better horror movies are slower, artier and demand more patience, but given how thrilling many of them still are, them being written off doesn't feel particularly fair.
Still, at least Green Room has the high Rotten Tomatoes score it deserves.
Should Be Rated: 7.8
