15 Films Critics Got Right (But Audiences Got Wrong)
7. Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice
Rotten Tomatoes: 27% (Average rating: 4.9)
IMDb: 6.6
This is the epitome of the divide between fans and critics; critics hated this movie while fanboys defended it. For all the accusations that critics are biased against the DCEU movies (and it's true that they were far, far too harsh on Justice League), those first three movies just weren't that good and Batman vs. Superman is a pretty awful film.
Looking at other disappointing blockbusters such as Man of Steel (7.1) from the same franchise, The Last Stand (6.7) and Apocalypse (7.0) for the X-Men series and Iron Man 2 (7.1) and Thor: The Dark World (7.0), a lot of these movies do get surprisingly good ratings even though much of the internet seems to hate them, so this is far from the only example of audiences going oddly easy on a disappointing movie.
No matter how much you might enjoy it as an action film, it cannot be denied that the dialogue, storytelling, bloated length and villains all sucked and it's a film so desperate to kick-start a cinematic universe that it often inspires feelings of pity.
It is, unfortunately, a terrible movie and it wasn't the case that critics are biased against the DCEU (remember, Wonder Woman is the second highest-rated superhero movie on Rotten Tomatoes); rather, they just didn't enjoy the movie and why on earth would they?
Should Be Rated: 5.7
