15 Films Critics Got Right (But Audiences Got Wrong)
8. Now You See Me
Rotten Tomatoes: 50% (Average rating: 5.7)
IMDb: 7.3
There are often divides in critical and audience opinion when it comes to tent-pole blockbusters such as this. Sometimes, critics are too harsh while audiences are fairer, but sometimes audiences are too lenient while critics get it spot-on. Now You See Me is very much an example of the latter.
Despite a cast to die for and a great premise, Now You See Me is a complete waste of time. It isn't clever, funny or thrilling, the final plot twist is ridiculous and, worst of all, Jesse Eisenberg's lead in utterly insufferable and will make you want to punch the screen.
It's not clear why audiences gave this a free pass. It is fun at times to be fair, but it gets less and less fun as it goes along and builds up to an anticlimax, so one would expect most viewers to have left the cinema with a sour taste in their mouths. There just isn't really any easy way to figure this one out.
Looking on the bright side, audiences did get it right in regards to the sequel, which was even worse. The sequel's IMDb rating of 6.5 is still arguably too high, but then again, films don't usually get lower than a 6.0 unless they're seriously underwhelming.
Should Be Rated: 5.6
