The Synopsis - Alfonso Cuaron was making excellent films long before he garnered plaudits across the board for Gravity, with one being Children Of Men, which is set in a London (and surrounding countryside) of 2027, where mankind is on the brink of extinction as a result of global infertility. Lead Theo (Clive Owen) is generally indifferent to proceedings, until he is kidnapped by a supposed terrorist group led by his estranged wife Julian (Julianne Moore), who task him with sourcing transit papers for a woman named Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), who later transpires to be pregnant. A coup led by group member Luke (Chiwetel Ejiofor) results in Kee being seen as a potential propaganda tool, however, forcing Theo to shake off his apathy and attempt to ensure her safe transportation out of the country. The Destruction - Though Bexhill in East Sussex gets the worse portrayal as decrepit refugee camp, Theo's London, home of the world's last functioning government, is hardly a paradise, as indiscriminate chaos result in regular bombings, destruction and criminal behaviour that have left the city much worse for wear.
