15 Films That Took Major Strides In Animation
4. Spirited Away
Like Laika Studios, Spirited Away was Studio Ghibli's masterpiece that put it on western audiences' radar. This Japanese animated film made a distinct comparison between it and other anime available, by having a minimalist and subdued view of the world which its characters inhabited.
In doing so, Spirited Away highlighted the imperfection of life and how its ambiguity can be a beautiful thing. This sense of wonder and tranquility was never reached or was losing prominence in animated movies at the time.
The now aspired director Hayao Miyazaki came up with the concept of making the film for young teenagers that was centred around growth and life's uncertainty, tangible to his disappointment of an abundance of romantic stories for the adolescent age.
This slower paced structure, amazing scenery, and mature subject was adored by the western watching public and gave life to Studio Ghibli's proceeding anime projects in film.
