15 Films That Took Major Strides In Animation
10. Space Jam
Influenced by Roger Rabbit's film debut, Space Jam wanted to do a similar procedure with the Looney Tunes. Except instead of bringing the 2D characters over to our world they decided to bring real people into theirs.
In the majority of this flick, Michael Jordan was set against a made-up background and communicated with non-existent actors who would then be replaced with the titular wacky characters.
An issue with Who Framed Roger Rabbit was that the multiple layers being added to each shot made it take more than an expected time to complete the animation. Space Jam didn't need to worry about that since the focal of the film was that of Looney Tunes themselves and not the realness. So it did provide an enjoyable time in the theatre, although looked like a step back when compared to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, at the expense of less production time.
It did take liberties however, such as in the final basketball sequence, the basketball would have had to be photographed from every angle so the cartoons could bounce and dribble it without the ball appearing static.
