15 Films That Took Major Strides In Animation
9. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
Into The Spider-Verse was always tasked with reflecting the comics medium in its approach to animation, and directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord formed the idea but it wasn't until other creative minds entered the scene, did all the nuances arrive along its production schedule. Following alt-world Spider-Man, Miles Morales offered them a chance to experiment, push the animation, and Spider-man mythology without interfering with the "mainline" Spider-Man movie universe.
In the film, we saw multiple Spider-people who had stylistic differences, multiple frame-rates to embody their experience with superhero duties, and flourishes with their movement and surroundings to call back to their comic book origins. A list of the new devices being, chromatic abberration, artificial blurring, crosshatch shading, Kirby dots, onomatopoeia text, and streak lines to name a few.
With all these innovations added together it was awarded a rare Academy Award despite being a superhero movie.
