15 Films You Didn't Realise Were Based On Comic Books

6. Road To Perdition

A History of Violence
Fox

Set during the Prohibition, Road to Perdition is about a boy called Michael Jr who learns his father, Michael O' Sullivan, is a mobster. Michael's boss, John Mooney, believes Michael Jr knowledge of his father's profession could compromise their work, and so orders for his assassination. Michael and his son go on the run while trying to eliminate Mooney's men.

Nowadays, it's well-known that Road to Perdition was adapted from a graphic novel. But even the biggest comic book enthusiasts probably aren't aware the tale is a remake of 1970 manga, Lone Wolf and Cub.

The film is pretty faithful to the comic, but there are some minor differences. Jude Law's character, Maguire, was concocted for the adaptation. Al Capone appears sporadically throughout the graphic novel, and was meant to appear in the adaptation, but was left on the cutting room floor.
