15 Fixes To Save The DC Extended Universe
1. No More Executive Meddling
And finally, the most blatant necessity for the DCEU moving forward: executives who think they know good business need to step back and let artistic visions triumph.
Both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad have p***ed a lot of money away due to poor reviews and divisive word-of-mouth quelling casual audience interest, hence both movies having near-70% second-weekend drops at the box office.
While it cannot conclusively be said that the original cuts of either movie would've resulted in stronger reviews or box office, it definitely seems likely, considering the warmer response to BvS' Ultimate Edition, and the fact that so much of Suicide Squad's trailer footage (especially that featuring The Joker) didn't even make the final movie.
There's a pattern here, and Warner Bros' head honchos need to take a step back moving forward: give the creative minds free rein on Justice League and see how it turns out. If it grosses less than BvS, then by all means consider returning to your meddlesome ways, but artists need to be given a chance to prove themselves before the bean-counters pull out their overly restrictive leashes.
