15 Funniest Movie Moments Of 2016
6. Hunt For The Wilderpeople - The Funeral
Hunt for the Wilderpeople was one of the most crowd-pleasing films of 2016. It's sweet, charming and filled with laughs. It also helped show the world what a tremendous talent Taika Waititi is behind the camera, but in his brief cameo, he also once again proves to be hilarious in front of the camera.
Waititi plays an eccentric minister who is giving the sermon at the funeral for young Ricky Baker's foster aunt. A funeral is no laughing matter, but there's a certain absurdity to the whole thing that makes it impossible not to laugh.
Firstly, the whole congregation consists of half a dozen people and the minister's rambling speech adds to the awkwardness. He talks about how in life you're met with two doors. The first door is easy to open and beyond it is all the junk food you can imagine. Thinking he understands the bizarre metaphor, young Ricky guesses that behind the second door is vegetables. The minister's incredulous and almost disgusted reaction is priceless. It turns out behind the second door is just another door. And behind that one? Jesus. As the minister explains, "He's tricky like that, Jesus."
It's a great scene in a gem of a movie and a great cameo from the director. Let's hope he pops up in his upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
