15 Funniest Movie Moments Of 2016

1. Hail, Caesar! - Would That It Were So Simple

The Coen Brothers have made some darkly violent films in the past, but they are also capable of making some truly goofy comedies, like last year's Hail Caesar! Like many of the Coens' films, this one is filled with many memorable characters. The highlight is definitely simpleton actor Hobie Doyle (Alden Ehrenreich), who is responsible for the funniest scene of the movie and the year.

Hobie is pulled off the set of his latest Western and transplanted into a prestige, grand romance picture from renowned director Laurence Laurentz. Horribly out of his element, Hobie tries his best to follow Laurentz's direction even though he clearly has no idea what a "mirthless chuckle" is. So ensues a gut-busting scene in which Laurentz tries his hardest to wring a decent line delivery out of the bumpkin actor, while the confused Hobie continues to butcher the whole thing.

Hobie's horrendous delivery is made even funnier by the fact that he's such a nice guy in a town full of self-centered jerks. And Ralph Fiennes continues showing he has a surprising gift for comedy as the pompous and frustrated director. It's a great display of the Coens' gift for dialogue and "Would that it were so simple" has become one of the most memorable lines of 2016
