15 Good Horror Films That Totally Lost It By The End

7. Carrie (2013)

Carrie 2013

The Film:

A telekinetic girl gets revenge on her bullies at the school prom... yeah, this remake is exactly the same as the brilliant original. Obviously it doesn't live up to that, but solid genre thrills, a nice dose of pathos and a great performance from Julianne Moore make it a watchable and decent retread.

The Ending:

Wow this really lost it at the end. This originally had a better ending involving a chilling dream sequence regarding Sue Snell giving birth... with horrifying results. Sadly, something came over them.

After a bad-ass prom scene, the final confrontation between Carrie and her mother is far too over-the-top and full of dodgy CGI. Then there's the very last scene. Sue Snell - played atrociously by Gabriella Wilde - lays a rose at Carrie's grave, much like in the original. This time, there's no bloody hand. The gravestone cracks and Carrie's scream is heard. Is she alive? What does this mean?

Whatever this illogical ending meant (Carrie was definitely dead), it was a painfully un-scary and laughably dumb way to end the movie. Time hasn't been massively kind to the original's dream ending, but it's still a bit of a jolt. This, on the other hand, is one of the worst ending shots of any film of recent times.

Maybe this was setting up a sequel, but thankfully no sequel has appeared. After all, they did a sequel to the original and look at how badly that turned out.
