Michelle Williams remains one of the most empathetic and endearing portrayers of the human condition in all of Hollywood. Her characters are not particularly glamorous or flashy, but they're each devastatingly human and true.

She currently has four Oscar nominations under her belt, including for her work in the romantic drama Brokeback Mountain and her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the brilliant My Week with Marilyn.

Her best performances to date can be found in Blue Valentine, another Oscar contender which charted the begins and the end of an ill-fated marriage, and Manchester by the Sea, where her grief is palpable throughout every scene.

At this rate, Williams seems doomed to the multiple-nominations-without-a-win club, but if she keeps up her remarkable work and keeps choosing such challenging projects, the Academy will have no choice but to recognise her talent in the near future.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
