Mark Ruffalo is a Hollywood heavyweight through-and-through. Not only is he one of the stars of the MCU, playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk with just the right amount of restraint and humour, but he's also balanced his role as a franchise mainstay with a series of challenging indie and Oscar-winning dramas.

The Normal Heart remains perhaps his best performance to date, and his role in the Best Picture-winning drama Spotlight easily stole the entire film.

But you only need to look at the sheer volume of phenomenal performances he's had over the years to realise how destined he is for future Oscar glory:

The Kids Are All Right, Infinitely Polar Bear, Begin Again, Zodiac, Foxcatcher, Shutter Island and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind all offer the image of an actor at the height of his powers, willing to challenge and push himself.

He has three nominations as of this writing, and with his enduring popularity working in his favour, I think it's safe to say he's not backing down until he nabs a well-deserved victory at the Academy.
