15 Great Sci-Fi Movies (Nobody Ever Talks About)

10. The Man Who Fell To Earth

David Bowie The Man Who Fell To Earth
British Lion Films

Starring the Thin White Duke himself David Bowie and directed by cult hero Nic Roeg (the man responsible for both Don’t Look Now and a Roald Dahl adaptation, somehow), this trippy seventies drama follows the eponymous spaceman, depicted by Bowie himself in typically off-kilter fashion, as he lands on our little green marble and succumbs to all manner of human temptations.

By turns strange, cynical, and quite tragic, this moving portrait of innocence betrayed uses recognizable sci-fi tropes to ask difficult questions about identity and responsibility, resulting in a surreal and singular experience which any sci-fi fan should seek out—obvious Christian symbolism notwithstanding, that is.

It's also a poignant reminder of the beloved rock star's screen presence, with Bowie impressing in the complex title role.
