15 Great Sci-Fi Movies (Nobody Ever Talks About)

David Bowie The Man Who Fell To Earth
Universal Pictures

Another sci-fi comedy maligned by critics upon its release, this effort from Superbad helmer Greg Mottola may have brought Cornetto trilogy stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and Judd Apatow muse Seth Rogen together at last, but was nonetheless all but forgotten after its release—and it’s a damn shame it was.

Starring the Hot Fuzz duo as a pair of (affectionately portrayed) sci fi nerds who stumble across an escaped alien, the foul mouthed weed enthusiast of the title (voiced by the unmistakeable chortle of the Knocked Up star), and are forced to help him evade capture by the combined forces of US intelligence, the film features some fun chases and fine supporting work from the likes of Jason Bateman and Bill Hader.

This one was slept upon on release but manages to bridge the gap between stoner humour and sci-fi action successfully and is well worth a watch as a result.
