10. Detective Kerry Gets Cheated (Saw III)

One of the best characters from the first three Saw films was Alison Kerry, a dedicated detective who was investigating the Jigsaw case and ended up tested for the rather dubious reason that she was too invested in her work and therefore "dead inside".

Kerry gets hooked into the Angel Trap, a contraption which is literally stitched into her ribcage, and if she can't retrieve a key from a jug of acid in time, the trap will rip her ribs clean off.

Though Kerry does in fact complete the trap, she's still killed regardless because it was intentionally set up to be unwinnable by Amanda, who emerges out of the shadows seconds before Kerry dies.

It's a genuinely disturbing death because Kerry seemed like the most likely candidate to bring Jigsaw down, and instead she got taken unfairly taken out of the picture. A hell of a trap, though, and the effects are superb.
