15 Greatest Dying Words Of Iconic Movie Characters

1. Charles Foster Kane - Citizen Kane

Citizen KaneWarner Bros. The Line: "Rosebud." How He Dies: Orson Welles' masterful Citizen Kane opens with one of the most enigmatic and talked-about death scenes in film history, as megalomaniacal media magnate Charles Foster Kane (Welles) lies on his deathbed and utters the single word before expiring. Though it's never explained how anyone is able to relay Kane's final utterance considering that nobody appears to be in the room when he speaks it, it forms the movie's central mystery, as a reporter tries to uncover the meaning behind the word. Of course, at the end of the movie, we discover that Rosebud referred to a sled from Kane's childhood, implying that despite his massive wealth and success, he was at his happiest as a child. This loads the single word with so much emotion, and it's something that all of us can relate to, either now or perhaps when we're each on our deathbeds.
