15 Greatest Fictional Bands Of All Time

4. Josie And The Pussycats (from Josie & The Pussycats)

No other band on this list has been "active" for as long as the Pussycats, who began life in Archie comics, then got their own cartoon spin-off in the 70s, and then a live-action movie reboot in 2001. And they rarely get the credit they deserve as feminist icons..

Not only were they one of the first all-girl bands in pop culture (who also played their own instruments), but they also had an African-American woman in the group at a time when that was completely unheard of.

Musically, the band started as pure bubblegum pop with a twinge of Motown, essentially mixing the best parts of The Partridge Family and The Jackson 5, but revamped their sound for the 2001 film, morphing into a pop-punk band a la Blink-182. Both iterations of Josie and company's sound went over exceedingly well with the masses.

Best Song: "You've Come A Long Way Baby"

Perhaps the greatest example of their occasionally tongue-in-cheek feminist sensibilities, "You've Come a Long Way Baby" takes the infamous Virginia Slims tagline and puts a more heartened spin on it. And the melody is pure Motown groove.
