15 Greatest Fictional Bands Of All Time
5. Steel Dragon (from Rock Star)
Recreating the story of Tim "Ripper" Owens, the lead singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who famously replaced actual Priest lead singer Rob Halford when he left the band, Rock Star takes its musical homages very seriously.
Aside from the obvious Judas Priest influence, Steel Dragon took many of its musical notes from glam metal bands like White Lion and Faster Pussycat, who played anthemic hard rock with a firm emphasis on sleaziness.
There's no denying that Steel Dragon was a more rejuvenated band once Mark Wahlberg's character took over, and his earnest "I can't believe this is actually happening" attitude is part of what makes the group such a treat to watch. Also worth watching: guitarist Zakk Wylde wail away on the type of solos that made him famous playing with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society.
Best Song: "We All Die Young"
Written by the real life metal band Steelheart, "We All Die Young" is a quintessential power ballad.
