15 Greatest Fictional Bands Of All Time
9. The Wonders (from That Thing You Do)
The Wonders (or Oneders if you're into that whole pun thing) were a distillation of every fleetingly popular pop rock band of the 60s, from The Turtles to the Dave Clark Five, with some requisite Beatles parallels thrown in for good measure. They were just a bunch of kids with the right combination of luck and talent to become overnight successes.
Though the band's story was the brainchild of Tom Hanks, it was songwriter Adam Schlesinger -- of Fountains of Wayne, a band who also happened to be a one-hit wonder of the pop rock variety -- who composed the titular song that gave the band its heart. That 60s power pop sound is impossible to shake even after the credits roll.
Best Song: "That Thing You Do"
In a case of perfect irony, the group's big hit from the film would actually crack the Billboard Hot 100, making the band a one-hit wonder in both fiction and in reality.
