15 Greatest Heroic Sacrifices In Comic Book Movies

2. Steve Trevor - Wonder Woman

If you watched Wonder Woman thinking you'd seen some of it before, it's probably because Patty Jenkins' exceptional stand-alone is very much like a narrative cousin of Joe Johnston's great MCU chapter (with a healthy slice of Thor in there too).

Hanging over the film from the outset was the inevitable revelation that Diana Prince was going to lose all of the friends and lovers she met in the world of man, because she's alone and alienated by the time Batman v Superman came around. And it was particularly ominous that it appeared she was going to enjoy a traditional romantic dynamic with Steve Trevor, since that basically made him dead meat.

None of that inevitably meant that Trevor's death - a heroic sacrifice, fittingly, since he was the conduit through which Diana learned the potential goodness of men - came about, and it was down to the chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine that it really landed. They make what could have been a cliched sequence feel fresh.
