15 Greatest Heroic Sacrifices In Comic Book Movies

12. El Diablo - Suicide Squad

No matter how enthusiastically you spin the box office figures or the blu-ray sales, Suicide Squad was not a good movie. It was barely even a passable movie after the mangled editing decisions and the mutilation of the story's most interesting details.

There were, however, some good flashes (not least in the performances of Will Smith and Jai Courtney), though it's extremely difficult to suggest that the climactic battle between the Squad and the Incubus and Enchantress qualifies as good. It's confusing then that El Diablo's heroic sacrifice as part of Incubus' defeat actually works so well.

Despite the writing not making sense (he has an unearned sense of family loyalty), and the effects being a little... ropey.... there's something disarmingly effective in his turn from annoyed pacifist to angel of vengeance, and it does genuinely count as a fan-baiting moment despite almost all of its specific details.
