15 Greatest Heroic Sacrifices In Comic Book Movies

11. Quicksilver - Avengers: Age Of Ultron

There's a suggestion among Marvel's more cynical commenters that death doesn't really matter in the MCU: even he biggest, world-threatening events rarely kill anyone of note and when someone does seem to be heading for the grave, they've faked out way too many of them for anyone to take the Marvel grim reaper seriously at all.

That much changed in Avengers: Age Of Ultron when Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Quicksilver was killed during the emotional climax, setting off a narrative chain of events that should eventually lead to something more interesting for his sister.

Quicksilver's death - which came as the climax of his arc from villainous agent to altruistic anti-hero - was a watershed moment for the MCU, but more importantly it was emotionally authentic. The impact of seeing him basically dive into harm's way to save Hawkeye and the Sokovian child landed true, and despite him being a newly introduced character, his death didn't feel obligatory or emotionally manipulative.
