15 Greatest Horror Movie Comedies

9. Night Of The Creeps

What We Do In The Shadows
TriStar Pictures

Night Of The Creeps pays tribute the sci-fi of the 1950s as well as contemporary horrors of the ‘80s. It is a melding of two eras of movie nostalgia which gives us one of the best horror comedies of the decade. Starring Jason Lively and Steve Marshall as Chris and J.C., two nerdy frat boys who agree to steal a corpse and dump it on the lawn of a rival fraternity.

The intro sets up the alien element in the 1950s as a spacecraft crashes to Earth before moving the action to the ‘80s. The corpse Chris and J.C. steal has been frozen since that night in the ‘50s and once thawed out the alien slugs it releases begin to infect the town and chaos ensues.

Night Of The Creeps is Saturday night b-movie gold. It is full of quirky lines and great sci-fi references – not to mention the unsubtle nods to several contemporary influences with character surnames such as Romero, Cronenberg, Carpenter, Cameron, Hooper and Raimi.

The standout in the cast has to be Tom Atkins as Detective Cameron – a haunted man ready to take on these invaders without hesitation and with some brilliantly cheesy one-liners.
