4. The Avengers - Alan Silvestri
Walt Disney PicturesIf Captain America: The First Avenger was Silvestri's warm-up for superhero scores, then 2012's The Avengers was his home run. Much like the film itself, it was the end of a long and winding road that Marvel began with 2008's Iron Man, culminating with Earth's Mightiest Heroes coming together for the first time. The score is huge, operating on a scope that few ever hope to achieve, but Silvestri's theme for the titular team is the clear champion of his effort. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1fiJMQV8Mc Hints of Silvestri's theme can be vaguely heard at the end of the post-credits scene in The Incredible Hulk, which was just a tease at the bombastic treat that he was about to unleash. It weaves throughout the film at a swift pace, getting an incredible moment of clarity during the truly awesome 360 shot of the Avengers in the climax. It closes out the film in grand style, getting its most blown-up rendition and putting it in a hefty spot as one of the great film themes of our time.
