10. John Carter - Michael Giacchino
Walt Disney PicturesThough the film itself was something of a financial disappointment for Disney, Giacchino's theme for Andrew Stanton's adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic is absolutely incredible. It has an otherworldly nature to it, speaking to the very alien nature of the film. You could almost believe that it's music created by Martians, as it shifts ever so gently into an alien soundscape that feels so surreal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRS_2eiOI_E But even so, it also comes across as being very human, reflecting the John Carter character himself. There's a sense of old-school heroics to it, calling back to the classic adventure films of the 40's and 50's, seeming like it could come straight out of a Flash Gordon serial. It all works effortlessly in the film, capturing the vibe that Stanton was going for and adding another notch into Giacchino's belt as one of todays best composers.
