15 Greatest Spider-Man Movie Moments

4. Doc Ock's Botched Op - Spider-Man 2 (2004)

For this scene in Spider-Man 2, Sam Raimi goes back to his horror roots in a full-on scary movie moment that would ostensibly feel more at home in Raimi's Evil Dead films than it would in a family-friendly superhero blockbuster. Yet it's a terrific moment that shows the power of Doc Ock's new-found extra arms. After his fusion experiment to create a new renewable energy source for the world goes wrong, killing his wife and welding his mechanical aids to his spine, Otto Octavius is taken to a hospital where surgeons try to detach his 'tentacles.' However, they get more than they bargained for when the arms, which possess a frankly alarming amount of artificial intelligence, turn on them, killing them all with ease. And while all this happens, the poor Doc sleeps soundly. Perhaps the best introductory scene of a super-villain in the Spider-Man films, if not one of the best of any superhero film, this short but memorable scene serves to catapult Doctor Octopus up with the best of them before he's really begun. I think we'd all like a set of mechanical arms, apart from the whole endless-carnage and taking-over-your-own-mind side of things.
