The battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back is without a doubt one of the greatest opening action sequences in the history of Sci-Fi cinema, and this Star Wars fan film focuses on the events after the Rebels made their daring escape.

With over 2 million views on YouTube, Rebel Scum is a short film about a Rebel fighter pilot who was left behind and left for dead after the battle for Echo Base. The film is shot with plenty of nods to The Empire Strikes Back and features Probe Droids, AT-ATs, side swipes in between scenes and a Snowtrooper.

Shot in freezing cold conditions in Canada, this story follows the Rebel pilot (Andrae Brown) surrounded by the Empire. When he comes across a wounded Snowtrooper (Anastasia Moody), he has a difficult decision to make in his quest to getting off the planet alive.

This film is brilliantly done for so many reasons but most noticeably it perfectly encapsulates the tone and feel of The Empire Strikes Back. Furthermore, it introduces a moral dilemma which shows that the choice between good and evil isn't always as easy as we might think.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
