15 Greatest Star Wars Fan Films Of All Time
4. Days Past
Days Past is a true masterpiece written, directed and edited by Aaron Kunkel, a film producer based in Los Angeles.
This 17 minute long short film doesn't feature any lightsabers or any use of the force, but is grounded in true heartbreaking drama between an ex-Empire Captain named Valera (Shirley Jordan) and her old protegé, a young Lieutenant (Liam Cronin). Based years after the collapse of the Republic, the Empire are on a mission to destroy Rebel insurgent forces which leads them to Valera.
Here, the old friends come face to face as the Lieutenant suspects his old mentor has something to do with it. What follows is an extremely tense standoff scene somewhat reminiscent of the opening to Inglourious Basterds between the two old friends.
What is wonderfully unique about this fan film is that it touches on the fine line between the dark side and the light. Days Past shows how even the smallest choices can result in being consumed by the dark side.
It is beautifully acted and wonderfully shot, and features a haunting final scene that will live long in the memory.
