With almost 30 million views on YouTube, Shawn Bu's Darth Maul: Apprentice gave Star Wars fans what they've been calling out for for years - more Darth Maul screen time! Darth Maul: Apprentice, gives us an insight into the grueling training that the young Sith apprentice went through in order to become Palpatine's right hand man.

Despite the mixed reviews that Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace has received over the years, there is one thing every critic and fan can agree on and that's just how incredibly badass Darth Maul was. Ray Park's acrobatic portrayal as the Dathomirian demon is a tough act to follow but this fan film certainly does him justice.

The film is set on an unknown planet where Maul is completing his training under the watchful eye of Emperor Palpatine's cameras. When a group of Jedi find him, he has to singlehandedly take them down in order to prove his worth to his master.

This fan film is outstanding for a number of reasons, but the real poignant moment is when you can clearly see Maul choosing to be one with the dark side by shaking off any feelings of mercy and empathy.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
