With just under 24 million hits on YouTube and almost a million likes, Vader: Shards of the Past is a delightfully dark insight into the tortured mind of Darth Vader. The Star Wars Theory team, who made this fan film, deserve huge props for taking on such a risky project. Vader is, without a doubt, the most iconic movie villain of all time and to make a fan film about his life after Revenge of the Sith, it had to be nothing short of breath-taking.

Any doubts about a Vader fan film are sure to be erased after just 30 seconds of this. Here, Vader takes on Imperial guards, stormtroopers and even Emperor Palpatine himself. There are even emotional flashbacks to Padme amongst a force lightning fight all within the first 3 minutes.

Danny Ramirez (writer and director) perfectly captured the emotional complexity of Vader's character. His anger towards the world and his deep sorrow for losing Padme is the emotional driving force behind this film but also features a lot of slashing and smashing.

For those that enjoyed Shards of the Past, you'll be delighted to hear that a part 2 has been released titled: Mace Windu Returns - The Amethyst Blade.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
