Imagine if Saving Private Ryan were set in the galaxy far, far away. That's what you get when you watch Odyssey: A Star Wars Story.

Aside from Rogue One, the Star Wars universe never really fully captured the utter horror of going to war: the anticipation before the bloody battle, the shell shock of being in the trenches, but Odyssey incapsulates the true terror of war perfectly.

With 120 cast and crew members, 118 Kickstarter backers and over 2 and a half million views on YouTube, Odyssey is a truly beautiful ode to the Star Wars franchise. With strong Rogue One vibes and wonderful cinematography, Max Alex Vogt of MAV Films created a war epic with great emotional depth.

The stand out lines like: "The blaster doesn't make you a soldier, what you do with it does." and "A true soldier fights not because he hates what's in front of him, but because he loves what's behind him." are so beautifully poignant and take this fan film to a whole other level of genius.

Also, it was lovely to see the A280s and T21s from the original movies in there. Nice touch!

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
