The Staircase is a 13 episode true-crime series documenting the trial of Michael Peterson, an author accused of murdering his wife. The story is told from the point of view of the accused and his defence team.
What starts off as a pretty unremarkable tale quickly escalates and as the series progresses a number of increasingly ludicrous facts are revealed. Couple that with a cast of very unusual characters and you've got one of the best true-crime series' out there.
Michael Peterson himself is an interesting character. He's engaging, articulate and, as the apparently innocent party, he's pretty plausible but still, you'll find yourself questioning his explanations, studying his mannerisms and scrutinising his demeanour.
The Staircase is a brilliant series, perfectly paced and packed full of twists and turns.
