15 Highest Grossing Movies Of The Decade: Ranked Worst To Best

6. Iron Man 3

Worldwide Box Office: $1.215 billion

All-Time Ranking: #10

2010s Ranking: #8

Iron Man 3 is a highly controversial film. Well, among comic book fans at least. Selling itself as a serious continuation of Tony Stark's arc from The Avengers, it emerged instead as a rollicking comedy that tried its hardest to upend comic book movie conventions while still being a comic book movie. Oh, and the Mandarin, Tony Stark's arch-nemesis, was revealed to be just a drunk actor. People were quite upset about that for some reason.

But taken for what it is, Iron Man 3 is great. It's Shane Black's superhero movie, an arc reactor away from being Kiss Kiss Clang Clang, with a sharp sense of humour and a story that actually strives to do things new. Coming off the success of Earth's Mightiest Heroes a year earlier and the continued transformation of Tony Stark into a household name, the movie was naturally a hit, becoming the only standalone movie in the series to pass the billion mark (well, until Captain America: Civil War).

Sadly the fan backlash has hurt how the movie is regarded, painting it as one of the MCU's weaker entries and in the process ignoring just how rubbish Iron Man 2 was.
