15 Highest Grossing Movies Of The Decade: Ranked Worst To Best

15. Minions

Worldwide Box Office: $1.159 billion

All-Time Ranking: #11

2010s Ranking: #9

For a time there Minions was in the top ten highest-grossing movies of all time. That's sickening enough, but when you consider that so much of the series' profitability comes from merchandising - the dungaree'd yellow blobs are f*cking everywhere - then it becomes something even more unsettling. You see, while the spin-off to the vaguely-charming Despicable Me films had a veneer of developing character and providing some crafted silly comedy, it was only ever really motivated by this financial goal.

Minions is a marketing exercise through and through, existing only to advance the brand; everything outside of the simplistic-yet-refined henchmen is based on what focus groups would say suggest is inoffensive and obvious (oh, Brits like tea and hippies were around in the sixties), and the ultimate goal seems to be to get children pestering their parents to take them to Orlando, home of Universal Studios.

Although even Illumination tried I don't know if we'd have got anything that great either. The central joke with the Minions - that they jabber nonsensically and are easily distracted - works fair enough when they're the supporting act, but as the focus of a film their irritation factor gets turned up to BANANA!
