Deadpool 2 is a ridiculously fun and truly delightful superhero movie and it's better than the original in every single way.
It's far more consistent and confident, the action is better, it feels more connected to the X-Men universe and this time, it's not just another superhero film since the plot breaks with conventions more. To be honest, what isn't to like?
The acting is great, the film is often surprisingly touching and the screenplay is a tremendous feat of comedy writing. With cameos, meta-references fourth-wall breaks galore, not to mention the best post-credits scene EVER, this takes everything fans loved about the original and dials it up to 11.
It's not quite perfect since there are dips here and there, the presence of T.J. Miller is unfortunate and, like the first one, it probably won't age that well since the jokes are so rooted in a certain time, but this is still easily one of the best studio films of the year so far.
The Oscars have now introduced a Best Popular Film category; let's hope this picks up a nomination.
