15 Historical Figures Who Deserve A Movie (And Who Should Play Them)

3. Socrates

Portrait Herm of One of the most essential figures in western philosophical thought, there are a number of stories and literature from which to draw on for an adaption of the life of Socrates (although many are apocryphal). Despite not leaving any written works behind him to draw from, Plato wrote several dialogues concerning events in Socrates life that could be the basis for a film adaption. Dialogues such as Phaedo and Crito, which deal with the trail of Plato by an Athenian jury and his subsequent discussions with his followers before his execution. The film would probably take place from the point of view of Plato as he chronicles Socrate's career and trial and subsequent execution. The film would show Socrates method of philosophy in action, taking scenes from the dialogues and rearranging it into a single narrative. It could end with the founding of the Academy by Plato, showing the influence of Socrates on subsequent generations. Casting Choice: Paul Giamatti sort of looks like him but I would not be able to take him seriously as him. Really I can't think of anyone so let's just put Daniel Day Lewis since I think he could pull a great performance out of anything.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
