15 Historical Figures Who Deserve A Movie (And Who Should Play Them)

8. Erich Hartmann

url-7 A slightly more obscure entry on this list, Hartmann was the top German fighter pilot of WWII ( his 352 confirmed kills is also the highest recorded of any pilot in any conflict). He served on the Russian front and although pilots enjoyed more comforts than most military personnel, he still suffered through harsh Russian winters while participating in some of the key campaigns of the later war years. Hartmann stayed behind with civilians at the end of WWII despite orders to abandon them and surrender to British forces (the Russian military was arguably the most unforgiving of any World War Two army, especially at the end of the war ). Hartmann spent the next ten years in a soviet POW camp following his surrender before he was released. A film on Hartmann should consist of two parts with the first focusing on his wartime exploits and the second dealing with his time in the POW camp. An adaption of Hartmann would also show that not everyone in WWII Germany was a monster as he willfully stays behind with civilians despite knowing the risks involved. A WWII film told from the German perspective would be an interesting twist on the War genre. Casting Choice: Anton Yelchin is a solid actor who looks young enough to convincingly play Hartmann.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
