15 Horror Movies That Actually Need Remakes

5. Chernobyl Diaries (2012)

The Original: A horror film set in Chernobyl's exclusion zone? It sounds awesome, right? Sadly, despite a brilliant setting and a couple of effective moments, Chernobyl Diaries is a tediously generic horror flick, rife with irritating characters, terrible dialogue, stock kills and a thorough feeling of predictability. Why It Needs A Remake: Because this idea is too good to waste on one bad film. The original made $37.1 million against a mere $1 million budget, so there's clearly money in it, and with a slightly larger budget, better actors and a more robust script, probably a lot more money in it. Despite the movie not actually being found footage even with its handheld aesthetic, this is one movie where the genre would totally work, so that's one possible angle. Simply spending more time on a compelling story is a must, though, and injecting a few more million dollars would ensure effects that don't look like a complete dumpster fire. How Likely Is It?: In the next decade? 0/10. But give it a little more time to ferment and, given how Chernobyl is always going to be of interest to people, someone will float the idea once again. If Cabin Fever can get a remake, why not this? So, 6/10.
