The Original: A movie about a house which attempts to devour a schoolgirl and her six friends: what's not to like? Nobuhiko Obayashi's demented horror classic is one of the most insane films ever made, a hilarious, grotesque, disturbing and thoroughly energetic movie which pretty much never lets up. Why It Needs A Remake: The film has not aged well, not at all. The visual effects are unpalatable to most viewers under the age of 30, though they do suit the movie's go-for-broke attitude. With even a moderate budget, today's visual effects could take House's barmy story and give it a welcome new lick of paint. Plus, the original movie featured dubious amateur actors and is poorly directed by modern standards, no matter how great the central ideas are. How Likely Is It?: 3/10. For starters, House just isn't very well-known at all. Though this makes it easier to stealthily remake without upsetting too many people, it's tough to imagine a major studio wanting to bankroll a remake of an obscure 1977 Japanese film that most viewers in the west have never even heard of.
